When you posted the "before" photos, I spent far too long playing mental Tetris with the existing appliances. Is there a wee refrigerator behind the cabinet doors in the bottom picture?
i feel like that could have been the title of last summer and fall. there was a LOT of sketching. my personal favorite is that i schemed a way to make that breakfast bar in the kitchen island by using a regular cabinet for the drawers, and then a wall cabinet for the one with doors--the wall ones are shallower, which left us a stool-pulling-up gap on the other side.
the fridge was moved against the wall where the kitchen nook thing becomes the living room, sort of across from the island/penninsula. it's disturbingly right next to the couch, but you'd be surprised how quickly that stops being weird. we keep meaning to hang a curtain so that it doesn't look like the world's ugliest, most unweildy end table, but that hasn't happened. we might sell the fridge, too, and get a smaller one with better aesthetics (not arctic white) that doesn't hum quite so loud.
the 450 square foot manhattan one bedroom: the best tetris ever.

also, mom, that foil lump i neglected to remove from the counter before taking the last picture is the next-day remnant of the banana bread.
